a dying gem

dialects are a gem, but they're truly dying in singapore. thank God i can speak cantonese. but my dad's a hock chew. not very common in singapore, and no, it's not a cross between hokkien and teochew thankyouverymuch.. and i dont know how to speak hock chew.

so yday and today, i embarked on a "learn hock chew" campaign.. and now my brain's full of phonetically wrong hockchew vocabulary.. GEEZ it's so much easier learning japanese and cantonese and chinese! maybe cos i speak and hear the latter 3 more often than hockchew. my new resolution is to visit my paternal grandma at least once a month. and also learn hockchew! haha.. my uncle teaches me smth, and 3min later i forget. and my dad just sits there quietly. and my mum, the cantonese, is teaching me hockchew. i think we got some relationship wrong somewhere around here. CHOPE! mum! why are YOU teaching me hockchew!! DADDY! teach me will you! haha..he doesnt teach me or speak to me in hockchew and he says it's cos i dont go visit mama. but my dad speaks to me in canto. there's something very interesting about my family. hahaha..

but it's cool to learn hockchew. cos it's uncommon and rather hard to catch.

MAN last night i learnt counting 1 to 10 in hockchew and my little cousins and entire family of more than 10 ppl were crowding around me listening to me. stress can!!!! and the little ones were rattling off in hockchew 1-10 and laughing at me. i wanted to smack them, seriously. wait till u learn canto. my turn to laugh... little brats.... little angels..

my newly thought-of resolution for 2009 is to be "Forever 18". haha!!!!!!! hey dont laugh! haha. i still cant handle the fact tt im 21 this yr. NOPE. i'm still 20.. wait, no.. i'm still 18.. hahaa... but in order to look like how i looked when i was 18, oh man. hard... i need good complexion..drats..must sleep earlier.. haha.. that's a 1st step. i wonder how nino manages to look forever 17. but actually when i watched the Iza Now concert 2004, nino looked A LOT younger. haha weiyang said tt aiba chan looks 22. COOL.. that's cool. aiba chan just turned 26 last december. now that is cool. haha..  like how lamy does NOT look 24 turning 25.. she looks 16 or 17, or at most 18.. hahaa.. amazing how these ppl do it..

oh i found out 2 days ago that when my dad was younger and when he didnt have rheumatoid athritis, he was real fit and lean and lanky and had 4-pec abs.. wow. hot huh. and he's abit kee siao one, loud and jovial. haa. sounds like someone i'd fall for, seriously. i think i'll end up marrying someone like my dad. but with better genes and health, thanks. haha..

time for me to complete the concert report while i'm still free this cny holiday.. no time to do it once the work sets in.. somehow this sem, all my modules seem to be the same. esp ian oliver's courses. i feel like this is the 3rd and 4th time i'm listening to whatever he's saying.... haha.. such a cute old man, he is...
